Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This policy explains what data Indietax (“we”, “us”) collects when you use this website, why we collect it, and what your rights are under UK GDPR and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. We’ve written this in plain English rather than legal boilerplate because we think that matters.
Who we are
Indietax is operated as a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. For data protection queries, contact us at privacy@indietax.co.uk.
What data we collect
Data you provide directly
Indietax has no user accounts. You do not register, log in, or submit any personal information to use the calculators. The numbers you enter into any calculator are processed entirely in your browser and are never sent to our servers.
Analytics data (Google Analytics 4)
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how people use the site. This collects:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- The calculator or tool you interacted with
- Device type (mobile, tablet, desktop), operating system, and browser
- Country and approximate city (based on anonymised IP address)
- How you arrived at the site (search, direct, referral)
We have enabled IP anonymisation in GA4. We do not use GA4 User-ID or any feature that links analytics data to an identifiable individual. Data is retained for 14 months.
Google Analytics data is processed by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. See Google’s Privacy Policy for how they handle this data.
Advertising data (Google AdSense)
If you accept advertising cookies, we use Google AdSense to display relevant ads. AdSense may collect:
- Cookies to personalise ads based on your interests and browsing history
- Information about ad impressions, clicks, and interactions
- Device identifiers for fraud prevention
If you reject advertising cookies, AdSense will still serve non-personalised ads but will not collect interest-based advertising data. You can manage your Google ad personalisation settings at adssettings.google.com.
Hosting data (Vercel)
This website is hosted on Vercel. Vercel automatically logs basic request data including IP address, request URL, and HTTP response codes for security and performance purposes. Logs are retained for 30 days. See Vercel’s Privacy Policy.
Cookies
We use three categories of cookies:
Essential cookies
These are necessary for the site to function. They include your cookie consent preference (stored in localStorage, not as a traditional cookie). These cannot be disabled.
Analytics cookies
Set by Google Analytics 4 if you accept analytics cookies. Includes _ga (2-year expiry, identifies unique sessions) and _ga_[ID] (session state). These are only loaded after you give explicit consent.
Advertising cookies
Set by Google AdSense if you accept advertising cookies. Includes __gads, __gpi, and related Google ad platform cookies. These are only loaded after you give explicit consent.
You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer, or by clearing your browser’s local storage. See our Cookie Policy for full details.
Legal basis for processing
We process data under the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests — basic server logging and site security (Vercel hosting data)
- Consent — analytics cookies (GA4) and advertising cookies (AdSense), collected through our cookie banner before any such scripts load
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — you can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Right to erasure — you can request deletion of your data
- Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Right to withdraw consent — you can withdraw analytics or advertising consent at any time through the cookie settings panel
- Right to complain — you can lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk
Because we hold no user accounts and no directly identifiable personal data beyond what third-party processors (Google, Vercel) collect for their own purposes, most of these rights should be exercised directly with those providers for data they hold.
Data transfers outside the UK
Google Analytics and AdSense may transfer data to the United States. Google relies on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK ICO for these transfers. Vercel’s infrastructure is primarily in Europe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
